Debt - Where can I get help?
cindy_cee13 asked:
Is there any place that can help with a consolidated loan, if one doesn’t own property?
I have too much debt and want to consolidate all my bills, so I am not charged interest by 4 different places. I make too much money to qualify for state assistance, and am almost ready to file for bankruptcy. But I still need $700 to do that. I just dont have that much and need help. Can anyone advise me please? All I want to do is be able to make payments and get out of debt. Not asking for any money from anyone. Just asking is there a loan company who will help me here. After paying my rent, utility bills, and car insurance, I dont have enough to cover my other bills and buy groceries for my family. Thanks

You can talk to financial institutions and see if they will help. With the new bankruptcy law you still have to go to credit counseling rather than have things wrote off. Credit counseling typically will garnish part of wage and have you close all other credit accounts.
I would recommend taking care of it somehow even if you have to talk with your creditors and convince to let you pay small payments for a while. Because the new bankruptcy law, creditors are suing like crazy these days.

I suggest you get onto a loan shark, then not pay him/her back. Then keep running for the rest of your life to stop them kneecapping ya!

Due to the change in the Bankruptcy laws it is much more difficult for you to file Chapter 7 Bankruptcy(fresh start).
First off you have to take care of your family.
The worst case if you don’t pay your credit cards is that they will send you to collection and attempt to collect the debt. Most of the time credit card companies will just mark the debt as “charged off” on your credit file(s) and you may also have a collection reporting. In rare instances will they take you to court and pursue a Civil Judgment against you.
As far as getting a debt consolidation loan that will depend on how much you need and what your credit score is.
If you are considering Bankruptcy then you must be behind with your creditors. Only an Attorney that specializes in Bankruptcy will be able to tell you if you qualify for Chapter 7, otherwise you will be placed in Chapter 13, which will be a court monitored 3 year program to pay off your debts. It will however stop the harassment from creditors/collection agencies.
My first step would be to negotiate directly with each creditor and ask if they have a payment/debt reduction plan they can offer you to avoid collection
Good Luck

Can I assume that you have already talked to a bankruptcy lawyer, or are you going on someone’s advice.
First, read about the new bankruptcy laws and decide for sure if that’s the path you want to take. Withour knowing more about your situation I can’t give a good recommendation.
If you did talk to an attorney, he should be able to give you the name of a credit counselor who is licensed to work under the bankruptcy court rules. They have a set amount that can be charged for advice.
Note that they only offer advice and counseling. They are not a credit repair or debt repair agency. Do not waste your time with those people, as many of the things they charge you for you can do yourself.
It sounds like all you need is some budget counseling, and a small “push” with a loan. My only advice is that if you take on a consolidation loan you MUST get your budget in order. Too many people fall into this trap and get even deeper in debt.
Check out the links I’ve supplied below. I’m not a lawyer or credit counsoler, i’m someone who’s been down this road and have counseled many others.
