Which should I do first, consolidate or buy a house?

My wife and I have about $15,000 in conventional debt in addition to her $70,000 in private student loans. Would it be wise to consolidate the conventional debt and the student loans, or will this hinder our intentions to purchase a home?

I should mention that the intention is to lower monthly payments on everything as much as possible to hopefully boost the total approved amount for the mortgage.
Private student loans are not government-subsidized, and therefore aren’t forgivable as federal loans would be under certain circumstances.
